Gone are the days of my carefree youth

Sunday, January 23, 2011
So I was going rearranging all my uni assignment documents on my laptop and saw my media folder which I forgot even existed and after clicking it open in curiosity, was hit by a wave of nostalgia.

Darn if I do not miss them.

I remember those days when I would religiously follow ALL their talkshows, dramas, interviews, commercials, movies, music and the list goes on and accumulated quite a huge amount of media which I have since deleted or zipped and uploaded to some obscure file server which I have since forgotten.

Those days of being in fandom talking and laughing over the most ridiculous gossips ever but oh was it fun.

Days when I could keep up with 6 different j-dramas a week or watch an entire anime series for 10 hours straight. And still find time to screen cap and write reviews of each on my blog here and here.

And also read a bunch of mystery novels weekly.

And watch CSI Miami.

And play with my PSP/DS for hours.

And blog religiously on almost every single event in my life.

And still get straight A's and on the Dean's Honor List while at it.

NOW?!

Ever since I left PCC and transfered to UCD, I can barely even breathe. I still get the straight A's and Honors but by sacrificing all those time wasting things I used to love.

Day in and day out I find myself studying endlessly just to make sure I am on top of my insane reading assignments and homework and quizzes and what not. Then whatever free time I have left is spent rushing from one club activity to the next or doing volunteer work. And come fall I will be looking at internships and research. Probably a paid job while I'm at it too.

All because I want to go to dental school. Where only 300 are selected out from 3000 applicants or more. And getting 4.0s and high DAT scores alone doesn't cut it because America has this notion of having to be well-rounded meaning doing this and that extra community services and stuff.

There simply isn't enough time.

And so when people complain about their addiction to facebook and stuff, it takes all my willpower to refrain from biting out the clearest and most obvious solution:

Plan to go to grad school.

No really.

Then you'd find all your addictions and bad habits just fall away into oblivion because you are way too busy trying to do this and that just to HOPE you get into grad school.

For the first time in my life, I actually use a planner okay.

And my laptop is used solely for writing papers. I don't even check facebook nor twitter anymore and only log on to reply to someone or post a request/question on someone's wall.

My PSP is like tucked in some dusty corner of my closet and my DS... ok lah my DS I have been playing with it on bus rides home because there is this one game called 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors which is very addictive because its like a novel so I needn't do much but read and really you all should try it cuz its a mystery one where you have to solve complex puzzles (not IQ ones like Layton where I feel my brain dying even more after a day of chem and bio) to get out of a locked room and if you make a mistake you die or get blown up by the bomb planted in your stomach by this crazy insane guy who kidnapped you in the first place and yeah I know it sounds gruesome but the graphics aren't so its okay unless you have active imagination then you'd be fine and it has 6 different endings and I have since completed 3 which are all the bad endings gah just my luck.

BUT I DIGRESS.

I don't even have time to play KH or Ghost Tricks hor! Heck, I didn't even have time to play my beloved Ace Attorney last quarter and left it to the very end of the quarter where all my papers were done.

I bet my daddy is like super gleeful now after reading this because he hates how I kept watching animes and stuff in the past but couldn't say much cuz I still got great results but now I can't if I want to achieve my dreams.

So yeah, I miss those carefree days.

I always thought I could be one of those cool adults that you know can merge professional careers with like super boh liao hobbies like gaming and watching dramas till I'm 40 or something but fat chance. And I'm not even married with kids yet.

I am becoming so grownup-ish its depressing. And the sad thing is I can't run away and go back :C

Being capable kind of kill those joys. You have to choose between those time wasting but oh so enjoyable hobbies and what you know you could achieve if you sacrifice those.

And somehow you will always stupidly choose the life-sucking immense responsibility goals over the frivolous fun ones.

Ah, such is life.

Hot and Cold

Saturday, October 9, 2010
Dear weather in CA,

MAKE UP YOUR MIND ALREADY. You cannot be mildly cold one week, freezing cold the next and then blazing hot the week after. Please also remember that it is now the lovely season of Fall and anything above 80 degrees is totally unacceptable. I, like many other girls out there, want to wear her pretty Fall coats and dresses and boots but can't because you thought it was fun to bring back Summer this week.

IT IS NOT.

So stop looping Katy Perry's 'California Gurls' on your iPod right now and go make some ice blocks.

PS. And don't you dare skip Fall and go straight into Winter *glares

Love,
Hana

Lucky, lucky, lucky ★

Saturday, September 12, 2009
So I'd just deposited two checks worth $1500 and am feeling all happyface now :D

Although that happy grin would be soon wiped off my face cuz I owe my dad monies for my fall semester tuition fees which he helped paid for in advance :C

Today must be my lucky day too because I got an email from Jen of fromheadtotoe informing me that I had won 1st prize in her giveaway! YES YES YES THOSE BRUSHES AND MINERAL EYESHADOW ARE MINE NOW BABY :3 Go read her blog now if you haven't! She is all sorts of amazing and ever so helpful in helping you try to find the right look ♥

Was on my way to a UCB application workshop when I saw a truck with the most unfortunate company name ever on the freeway:

Bimbo Bakeries

- We have hot buns ;) -

But seriously. wteff.

Finally got in touch with SoEun yesterday and she's doing fine in Korea now although she misses CA dreadfully. I miss her too. Somehow, I still think that it was partly my fault for what happened that lead to all these events. If she'd never met me and agreed to pick me up that one morning, what happened might have never happened at all and she would most probably be staying in the states still. But my deepest regret was pushing aside the warning bells in my head when she told me certain stuff later that day, thinking that things couldn't possibly take that worse of a turn and thus failed to warn her seriously of the possibilities before I went home. Only to have my worst fears confirmed the next day. I felt like kicking myself so badly ever since because I could have actually prevented it from happening.

Sometimes I keep forgetting that not every girl is as skeptical and cynical like me.

And so I assume that they can handle themselves fine when in reality, I find myself having to yell out the obvious in their faces cause what is obvious to me isn't to them. In all my years growing up, I've mixed around with various people from all walks of life and if you're a girl, my best advice to you ever would be to foster a close relationship with your dad. It would save you A LOT of troubles and heartaches in life really. You'll see life from a slightly different perspective and make wiser choices in life. I won't say I'd never make any mistakes in life but almost all my mistakes are those of when I chose to ignore my dad's advices. Being closer to your dad does make a world of a difference and one day I will write a thesis paper on this. If it has not been written already.

Okay, enough with the solemness. I'd never intended for this post to end up this way and so here's a picture of my fortune cookie's fortune of the day:

LOL

And so this my dear friends, is how fortune cookies came about XD It all stemmed from the fateful meeting of these two men with very different dreams ya'all. Now you know what interesting tidbits to tell your friends when you're out eating at the nearest Chinese restaurant haha.

I look and feel like a prune

Monday, September 7, 2009
So as most of you probably know, I paid a little visit to the dermatologist last week in hopes of getting a magical cream for flawless skin. I've been reading tons of beauty blogs and everyone recommended seeing a dermatologist to fix any acne problems you might have.

Now, I won't exactly say I have an acne problem since the doctor's first words when he saw me was "You have acne??? Or is this just your good day?" and what he didn't say was clearly written all over his face: "You better not be wasting my time you frivolous airhead".

In my defense, I do get terrible breakouts during my monthly cycle and my skin isn't exactly smooth smooth. So anyway, I managed to wheedle out some products from him which costs me a whopping $45 plus consultation fee $20 and parking $4 wth so altogether its an effing $69 for this one visit. Now isn't that just a pretty number. I have to follow-up with him in another 3 months again sigh.

Oh, and I'm only allowed water-based makeup meaning I have to change my entire makeup products since its all oil-based and apparently water-based products cost a bomb. So now I'm cheating by using mineral makeup or just going out nude. In the face I mean.

I shall invest in hugeass sunnies tomorrow.

Anyway, guess what? My skin now looks 100 times shittier than before. I woke up yesterday morning with incredibly dry flaky skin and despite forcefully drinking 2 pitcher full of water and dabbing on copious amounts of moisturizer, I still look and feel like shit. In fact, I look like the mummy returns minus a couple hundred years wteff.

To be fair, I was warned by everyone including doctors that your skin would get considerably worse the first few months before it completely clears up but clearly, I didn't know what I was really getting myself into because its so terrible that my face feels like the sahara desert 24/7 and the medicine really freaking BURNS when applied now. Its like flames licking at your face as jolts of cold pain spread throughout your body every passing second and I suddenly have this urge to go out on mission trips spreading the gospel because if this is what hell feels like, then it is no joking matter darn it.

All these suffering and I haven't even started taking the pills yet which I shall soon in hopes that it might get better (wishful thinking). Why couldn't my appointment be during the summer dammit so I needn't go to classes everyday looking like something the cat dragged in???? Actually, why did I think messing with my skin in the first place was a good idea? Oh, because I wanted to look like Vivi models and what not. Right.

Somewhere in the midst of the intoxicating summer heat, I got this ridiculous notion that I could look real pretty if I just make that effort to and bought a crap load of stuff in hopes of achieving the look and totally missed my real goal in life. Which is to transfer into Berkeley next year. Who definitely doesn't give a rat's ass on how I look but on how I performed academically.

So enough is enough and my last purchase of circle lenses (yes, this is how shamefully far I'd since sunk) will be my last frivolous purchase ever. I'd just logged onto my college account and realized that I'd been on the honor roll for my freshman year (surprise surprise I never knew) and so here's to another year of straight As. Now I won't go around yapping about how beauty is totally superficial and unimportant because it is important. But its not everything. And looking back, I'd totally lost that sense of balance then. Thankfully, I managed to get my head back from the clouds in time and so here I am, bad skin and all, ready to resume another few tedious hours of studying.

Balance. I might need a couple of 'road signs' every now and then but I think I'm slowly finding it.

Sometimes you just have to suck it in and ask for help

Tuesday, March 3, 2009
So I wasted my entire day trying to find my wallet which had mysteriously gone missing since Friday.

I turned cushion covers, looked under beds, crawled on my knees around the house peering under every piece of furniture, dug through every trash can, emptied out every single drawer, went through every single article of clothing, flip beds, opened all cupboards, tossing soft toys behind me as I searched, emptied out all my bags, peered into every nook and cranny, shouted, lamented, cried, screamed, moaned, whined and generally making a mess of the entire house and did I find it?

NO.

And I desperately need it because in it are my debit cards, social security, ID's, gym membership card, along with other important documents and the last few days without it left me crippled T_______T

I was frustrated, angry, worried, and depressed because hard as I tried, I simply for the life of me couldn't remember what I did with it after I bought myself a burger from the nearby fast food store and only knew it could be at home because I last used my card to let myself in and have not left the apartment since then. I even started to suspect that I accidentally threw my wallet out together with the trash after I finished eating (impossible cuz my wallet weighs a ton but I was watching Toma's drama that time so I could very well be rendered stupid atm) or that a couple who came to my house on Friday stole it (wth as if two 40 year olds would steal a poor student pink wallet but desperation can make you think a flying elephant stole it even) and was ready to dig a deep hole in the ground and wallow miserably in it forever.

In the midst of my desperate search, my mom was all 'why don't you just kneel down and pray? It works.' before launching into one of her 'prayer works' experiences but I just brush her off with a flippant 'WELL OBVIOUSLY GOD DOESN'T CARE ABOUT ME CUZ I DID AND WHERE IS MY WALLET?'. Now to be honest, said prayer was mumbled simply while I was busy crawling around trying to find it but what is the difference really? Or so I thought.

And continued spending the next 5 hours turning the house inside out for the 913813714th time yet again.

To no avail.

Till daddy came home just now where I immediately poured out my woes to him only to have him look me firmly in the eye and go 'Hannah, the only thing you have left now is to kneel down and pray. Nothing else. Go to your room now and do it' and so grudgingly (along with a string of skeptical grumbles) I obeyed (because he practically shooed me into my room what).

So kneeling down beside my bed, I started to pray half heartedly and I don't know what is it about kneeling down but you tend to get all emotional suddenly and before I know it sincere cries of utter desperation and hopelessness for help from deep within starts flowing out like a river....

As soon as I said Amen, I stood up, and for no reason why really, decided to flip my sister's pillow yet again for like the 10th time. ONLY this time suddenly I saw, between the crack of the bed and the wall was, you guess it, my missing wallet.

".........................."

I have no words except tears and laughter at this whole ordeal.

I guess sometimes there really isn't anything you can do but just kneel down and pray. As simple or ridiculous as it may sound, like it did for me, it worked. I really have nothing to say except maybe that being stubborn has just wasted my entire day which could have been better spent studying for tomorrow's quiz. Sigh.

Why yes God, I've learned my lesson now.

Red Colored Toothpaste

Friday, January 30, 2009

...IS LIKE THE STUPIDEST THING EVER INVENTED.

So I walked into the bathroom this morning all groggy and sleepy eyed as I fumbled around for my toothbrush and discovered that my mom had bought a new tube of toothpaste and upon squeezing realized that it's red in color.

Of course I was immediately taken over by bouts of childish wonderment and glee at how cute and
sparkly it is before finally sticking it into my mouth to brush my teeth. And so there I was, back to my initial groggy state after that short moment of interest as I mechanically move my toothbrush around my teeth all the while wishing I could go back to sleep as my eyelids droop lower and lower every second with thoughts of gay red sparkly toothpaste now furthest from my mind....

Till I spit my toothpaste out and as I was reaching for the cup of water to rinse my mouth, I happened to look down into the sink and was faced with this image:

AND I SWEAR MY HEART TOTALLY STOPPED RIGHT THERE AND THEN BEFORE I STARTED SCREAMING MY HEAD OFF TOTALLY AWAKE NOW AND STARING AT IT IN FROZEN HORROR COMPLETELY FORGETTING ABOUT THE WHOLE NEW TOOTHPASTE BEING RED THING AND HYPERVENTILATING INSTEAD ABOUT HOW I COULD LOSE SO MUCH BLOOD. BLEEDING GUMS? BUT IT'S LIKE A WHOLE SEA OF RED IT LOOKS MORE LIKE OMG LEUKEMIA?!?!?!?! OMG NO NO NO I'M TOO YOUNG FOR THIS SHIT I DON'T WANT TO BE LIKE THAT GIRL IN BIG BANG'S 'HARU HARU' MV ONLY I DON'T EVEN HAVE A G-DRAGON TO CRY FOR ME (funny how stupid irrelevant thoughts always appear in your flash of panic really) THIS IS SO NOT HAPPENING PLEASE NOOOO till I caught sight of the damned tube of toothpaste out of the corner of my eye and remembered.....

@$@%$!!@@&!!*^#!*@#!@#(*@#^!@*(&^#!!!!!!!!!11

SCREW THE IDIOT WHO THOUGHT HE WAS BEING AWESOMELY CREATIVE WHEN HE DECIDED THAT RED WOULD MAKE A GOOD COLOR FOR TOOTHPASTES.

"Why have boring ol' white when you can have colors? Why not make pretty colors like idk RED which is a fierce color rawr~! and make brushing your teeth an exciting experience totally different from the past?"

Well you got the EXCITING EXPERIENCE part alright only it wasn't what you had in mind didn't you? I could have died from the shock you dolt omg and I am grateful for all those long hours put in at the gym lately or I swear my heart would have failed. Just think if it was a less fortunate person with a weak heart like the elderly OMG STUPID TOOTHPASTE IS A HEALTH HAZARD AND SHOULD BE BANNED REALLY. SOMEONE SHOULD SO START A PETITION FOR THIS.

Save the world! Save the innocent elderly!

Resolutions

Monday, January 5, 2009

Because my debit card is positively weeping with overuse.

Heaven forbid I get my hands on a credit card okay.

I swear I have no idea what has gotten into me because for the past 18 years of my life, I'm known as a squirrel who hoards like no tomorrow and now I'm back in the US and bam my spending habits is spiraling out of control T__________T

I blame all the clothes and shoes and bags and pretty much everything here for being so damn gorgey that I cannot walk out of a shopping mall at any given time without leaving with at least one item. And who could forget the joy of online shopping?

I blame the 4 seasons really. Because only here do you need like 6 pairs of boots. And that is only after much agony and insane slashing over my list. Do not even get me started on pumps, flats, stilettos, flip-flops, espadrilles etc. and that is only shoes mind you.

And all the malls' policy for like changing their entire rack of clothing every 2 weeks with something new, I blame you too. *shifts blame wtb*

So my one and only resolution this year is to spend less.

Yeah, that's it. Spend less. That sounds easy =)

Oh who am I kidding... =C

What I need is uhm.......a job >.<

So I can continue to buy stuff but minus the guilt that comes with it.

Or maybe I should start hunting down all scholarships available =D Though I'm quite sure its meant for your education and not shopping but still......$10,000 shopping spree omg imagine the possibilities 8D

Anyway, my resolution (omg first time ever) for the year 2009 wtb:

1. Get a job

2. Get my elusive driver's license

And then my life would be pretty much complete =)

Okay, so no one's life is ever complete until you're lying in your coffin all stiff, cold and very much dead but you know what I mean.

Shall haul my butt off to hit the freezing sidewalks tomorrow and beg every shop for a job as I 'd skipped winter classes this sem.

Story of my life. Sigh.

Post Secret

Sunday, December 21, 2008

Was browsing through this week's secrets at PS and came across this:

Well, what can I say except....

WHAT THE BEEP HELLO I'M AVAILABLE!!!! *waves hand like a maniac*

You can add 'handsome' to your list too because after a little plastic surgery you will look like Yunho and we can live together in our mansion in Beverly Hills as a rich, powerful, and gorgeous couple, happily ever after =D

P.S. Oh stop with the eye-rolling and superficiality murmurs and just you wait until the day you start toiling for an LV bag whereas I'll be using them as my idk, trash bags, you'll wish you'd did the same =P

Hair Talk

Monday, November 24, 2008

HAHA my sister's hair got caught in the blades of the hair-dryer. I know it sounds painful but its effing funny ok to see her looking like a tornado victim with a hairdryer as a hat. Ok so tornado victims isn't something to laugh about either but anyway, hahahaha. I've always wondered how would it feel like to have your hair caught in fan blades or hairdryers ok and I've lost count of the number of times I felt like sticking my finger into a whirling fan just because people warned me not to since young.

Anyway, speaking of hair and hairdryers, the gym is an interesting place. Honestly today a woman beside me in the changing room practically stuff a hairdryer down her underwear wth I am never using those hairdryers again. Ever.

And I think I saw Darwin's proof of human evolution running on the treadmills. Seriously, it's a crime to be that hairy wth. Like walking ape man ok! The horror. It's like thick black matted hair, no, FUR, all over ok cuz he was wearing shorts and singlet (oh the double horror its as bad as a gorilla in lingerie).

So I was recounting my traumatic experience to Ammy the other day and she asked me what I thought of chest hair wth obviously I hate the very idea of it ok. You know what my ideal guy is? Completely hairless except for the hair and eyebrows. I think smooth skin is oh so sexy =D

I know I've ranted about facial hair before but I realized that it isn't enough. If I have to spend the rest of my life shaving or waxing my legs or underarms I don't see why guys can't do the same. hmph. Oh shut up about it being sissy. I think all my idols are super effing hot with smooth hairless skin ok
♥

2nd sis says I'm being unrealistic and at the rate I'm going, I'll either end up single with 27 furry cats or being limited to swimmers and runners only since these two groups are the ones required to have hair free skin as body hair inhibits their performance. IMO, scientists should research more on this topic and find more reasons for guys to shave/wax and try to relate every unfortunate incident due to body hair =D Fail your test? Cuz its been proven that the hairs on your legs decrease fresh air flow to the body leaving you fatigued to concentrate properly. Sick? Cuz its been proven that smooth skin promotes healthiness. Fired from your job? Cuz your lady boss happens to find body hair unsexy =P

Damnit the world needs more lady bosses who like the idea of smooth skin on guys then the world would be a happier place. Where is my feminist movement? I want to contribute my idea heh.

To quote 2nd sis from her hilarious post: "No armpit hair!"

No wonder swimmers all look more pleasing to the eye compared to other athletes. Now you know why I love JE and other asian boybands to itty bitty pieces too. It's cause their management force them to keep a fresh smooth appearance which they secretly hate but have no choice but to comply with much to my fangirl delight =DDD

(OMG I was like googling pictures of Yamapi to prove my point and came across something more than I bargained for -was looking for leg pictures only- but I can say that wth he has the smoothest hairless body ever. Ahem.)

Anyway, here's a really old pic of part of NEWS but nvm it still proves my point:

Oh the glorious luscious smoothness =d

And so I am dead set on sticking to Asians. Not because I'm racist wth but hairist and it's common knowledge that Asians are generally less hairy right? heh. I die liao I think I shall be boyfriendless from now onwards as guys would have nightmares of a maniacal me creeping up to them unnoticed like the the guy in the SAW movies (which I don't watch btw) except that I'll be brandishing a razor instead of a saw and shaving every inch of hair off while they scream about egos and manliness crap. Of course I shall leave the head and eyebrows untouched because an eyebrow-less guy is damn effing scary.

An eyebrow-less MatsuJun courtesy of Photoshop and boredom

Unless of course you're Gaara:

Yes, you're OK =D

Ahem. And thus end my ramblings. Now excuse me while I switch majors to health science because one day I'm gonna make my ideals theory a reality.....

Change

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

Was browsing around online shopping sites the past few days and came across this cute pair of boots:

I think its cute and I dare you to disagree with me hmph. Anyway, the best thing was how someone even offered to buy it for me but when I showed it to my family they were all 'it won't suit you' and when I asked why, this is what I roughly got:

"You are the conservative introvert type ok. You'll only end up spoiling the image of the boots in question. You're not the wild type who barges their way through everything etc. If you want to wear these sort of styles, you've got to open up more etc."

"........."

You know what? Screw conservatism. I am sick of being this supposedly kuai girl who doesn't wear this and that, of being quiet and never going against the flow of things, of thinking up a million possible outcomes and risks instead of doing things on impulse, who doesn't protest her way through anything as long as it isn't deemed unfair and stick to the balance of things in life.

Srsly what is the point of having model height and not being ever to wear all the chio stuff found in catalogs and stuff simply because I am of 'not a certain type'?! *irritated*

I shall now kiss my stupid conservative image goodbye. Shall start speaking up more in class, barge my way through the halls like I own it, talk to random people (haih, must I really?), return hugs and not shun them and dye my hair blond and wear thick dark green eyeshadow with heavy eyeliner/mascara topped off with 3 inch lashes.

Ok I kid about the last part. Cuz I still think my classmate looks like a peacock with it. Really, maybe I should tell her that one day since I am her groupmate and all but later she ask her ah lian friends beat me up then how?

Neh, like this. Except she is Taiwanese. She is still blond though.

But she is nice at any rate. And really stylish. And also pretty. Almost like a Taiwanese Koda Kumi. Just sadly a little overdoing it with the peacock makeup and everytime she blinks or flutters her eyelashes, I cannot help but imagine 2 peacocks fanning their tails proudly and wonder how she can open them at all under all that weight....

I hope she'll never discover my blog.

But I am serious about the first half you know. Though I have no idea how cuz I really dislike talking to people I don't know well, much less hug them back. And I prefer to just quietly sit back in class listening to people talk and snicker inwardly when they make ridiculous comments and thank the heavens its not me and just quietly ace all my classes whilst my classmates still mis-assume me as stupid cause I don't talk.

And I should really stop thinking something is wrong with me and feel all self-conscious when I walk down the hallways and everyone turns to look at me and just be proud of my height instead of stupidly wishing I was shorter which I don't wish so if you were to ask me when people aren't looking at me. I should also learn how to start conversations instead of thinking up various things I can possibly say and their possible replies in my head like a schizophrenic only to have the person going off as soon as I finally decided on a topic. SIGH.

I wish there is a 'extrovert pill' I could take or something instead of painfully torturing myself towards change =C

Maybe I should dye my hair blond this week and that somehow miraculously together with the bold color would come courage *muses*

Oh who am I kidding.....

Sound Like A Californian in 7 Easy Steps

Thursday, September 18, 2008

So you love California, you think Los Angeles the most glamorous city on earth, and you're tired of your boring country and want nothing more but to live, eat, breathe in this glorious sunny state. In other words, you want to become a chic Californian.

So you book yourself an appointment with the tanning salon, buy all the skimpiest clothing you can find, carry an iPod with you everywhere and even have your entire 'How to Speak Fluent English' book memorized by heart. Yet as soon as you open your mouth to speak, people all go 'so where are you from exactly?' and you are annoyed and wonder how they saw through your guise.

But fret not! After months of observation, I now bring you a guide on total Californification and today we shall cover the topic of 'The Art of Speaking Californish'* =)

1. Always start every conversation with 'how are you' before going into your main reason even if you couldn't give a rat's butt on how the other is actually faring. Do note then when asked this, you must reply with a 'oh I'm fine' and nothing else because this is solely everyday formalities and not an open invitation for you to share your sob stories.

2. Abuse the word 'like' excessively. You know you've achieved total Californification when are able to drop it after every 3 or 4 words.

eg. Like you know how she like caught her boyfriend like cheating on her like in broad daylight like last week like with this girl who's like a total slut who like slept with like 2/3 of the campus guys like really, I heard she like has a million STDs like eww you know and like the only reason she like didn't sleep with the like other 1/3 was like cuz they were like you know, like gay. Like I said...

I swear this is true ok omg, well not the story but the 'like' thing omg I really wanted to strangle this girl in the library today and was this close to screaming 'I LIKE DUNNO YOU BUT LIKE CAN YOU LIKE SHUT UP?!'

Damn annoying but probably the easiest way to speak like a Californian.

3. Exaggerate your words. Nothing is ever just an average 'okay', 'smart, 'fun', 'pretty', 'bad', 'stupid' or 'nasty' but instead more of a 'wonderful!', 'brilliant!', 'awesome!', 'gorgeous!', 'shitty!', 'idiotic!' and 'A-hole!'. Yes, the exclamation point is not to be missed.

4. Replace most item names with 'shit'.

eg. Boy A: Omg that's the coolest looking piece of gadget shit ever!!! How much was it?

Boy B: Around 300.

Boy A: Man, that's some expensive gadget shit.

Boy B: I know but this gadget shit has like the most awesome functions shit ever!

Of course, not all Californians talk like this but certain groups do. Depends on who you wanna hang with.

5. End your sentences with a '*pause* so yeah' whenever you lost track of your thoughts or do not know how to continue your sentence (which should be often because Californians are known to have short attention spans and tend to ramble to the point they themselves have no idea what they were trying to say).

6. Play ballet with your vocal chords. Californians never speak in flat tones. Speak as if you're asking a question with your voice and preferably an octave higher and lighter (like dancing with your voice) if you are mainly from the South-East Asia region where people are normally too lazy to raise their tone =P

7. Always remember to talk LOUDLY. Be it to another person, in a group or on your cell. By the end of your conversation, everyone within a 100 mile radius would know by heart where you're going tonight, what you're gonna wear, who you're going with, what you think of that girl's fat thighs, your significant other bad habits, how you lost your virginity etc.

Oh trust me, the amount of gossip one can gain in 15 minutes is awesome. You don't even have to try. Just innocently happen to be nearby and like it or not, you'll know every detail about so and so thoughts and life stories.

*******************************

Congratulations, you have now reached the end of this guide and if you had followed this guide diligently, you would have achieved the first step towards total Californification!

Now go practice your talking skills because as they say, 'practice makes perfect' =)

After you've master the art of speaking like a Californian, you may proceed onto the next chapter which would bring you closer to turning into a total Californian ♥

Dread

Tuesday, September 2, 2008
Just received a call from the doctor.

Apparently the lab tests are back and to my horror, the results isn't favorable in my case. Am asked to stay on medication from today onwards.

Damn strict dieting and the useless peers who use to taunt me for not being skinny back in form 2.

Not a day passes by where I don't regret my actions.

Girls who diet are stupid. I was stupid. And now I'm forever paying for it.

ALSKDJALSKDA

Thursday, August 28, 2008

Was chatting to the bff last night and I've just got wind that K is now with YP. Like O.M.G why are all my friends dating each other this is just so weird to me ok. Its like those were once my 'haha why you so suku one hahaha not lidat lah' friends ok and now they are all 'i love u 143' with each other. Brain is having a hard time to compute this relevation and changes ok. Mine I mean. I told 2nd sis that but she says hers are also the same wth.

I can understand one or two maybe but nearly my entire circle of high school friends? I don't think I really want to visit Kuching anymore. Or even if I do, I shall do so secretly to avoid meet-ups of any sort. Very intimidating ok to go out with them and to find that every single one of them is now paired up with each other. Like 92844242 couples staring back at you. And lets say for example if I were to ask my bf to accompany me to such meet-ups it would be even more akward cause its like he would be the sole stranger in the midst of all my old friends.

And also very hard to converse with them nowadays cause have to watch what you say ok cause this is now their other half you are talking about. No more simply joking around like before. Very terribly complicated leh.

Anyway, lotsa things going on in my life lately but I'm simply too lazy to blog about any of them atm and some things I just don't feel like writing them here *shrugs. I find that I do prefer LJ instead cuz its more journal and private like but I'm afraid my f-lists would kill me if I keep spamming them with my rl posts =C Plus I'm too lazy to upload all my pics onto an external site and paste them into LJ. Should stop being so stingy and upgrade my account one day sigh.

On another note, school starts in approximately 3 days. Byebye summer hols. Le sigh.

Blood Types

Monday, August 25, 2008

So I'm going for blood tests and all that shizz tomorrow morning. Meaning I cannot eat anything for 6 hours prior to all the tests sigh no breakfast I feel like crying =C Plus right after all those medical tests I have an appointment with the dentist and I hope the surgery would be postponed because the last time 2nd sis went for it, she came out looking like a horrible chipmunk and was reduced to eating baby food for a week. I confirm cannot survive without rice ok so I'm hoping for some miraculous act whereby I need not undergo the surgery.

Anyway, one happy thing about tomorrow would be the blood test! After 18 years, I will finally find out which blood group I belong to =DDD Am very curious ok after watching all these shows where they always refer a person's personality to their blood types lol. So far the only blood type I know is the B type cause NEWS are forever mentioning it in reference to Tegoshi's blatant selfishness and self-superiority lol. And in Ouran there was a mention of Kyoya and Hunny being AB I think. I know there is a chart somewhere about this, let me find it....

Aha, here it is:

Hmm, interesting....I wonder which type would I fall under
✿

Anyway chart aside, I fervently hope I'm an 'AB' ok. Cuz then can receive all blood groups =) I remember the first time I learned about blood groups back when I was a kid, as soon as I reached home I hounded my parents and asked hopefully if they were 'AB' to which they say they can't remember what type they are =C And I kinda panic and worriedly demanded next to know if they were 'O' and was super effing happy when they say they definitely weren't =P

Like heck I want to be 'O' ok. So what if can donate to all blood groups hor what about me leh? 'O' is like effing rare ok I think and the fact that it can only receive 'O' types is so not kimochi. I've always wanted to be 'AB' hor I don't care if people are forever frowning down upon 'AB' types as selfish ha I'd happily be selfish ok if being selfish means a higher increase in my survival rate ★

Be so generous for what anyway.....I want to be generous out of my own will and not through something I have no control over hor.

Anyway, am somewhat happy for the blood test since the fact of knowing I'm definitely not an 'O' was enough to keep me contented over the years from finding out more haha. Yay, would soon know my blood type! Hope I won't get a stupid incompetent nurse this time too (-_-)

Wish me luck that I'll turn out to be AB~♪

New Church

Sunday, August 3, 2008

Visited an all Chinese church today. Yeah, until today still haven't managed to find a suitable one haih. Oh the service is in English ok cause my Chinese is so cacat honestly cause the last time I attended one, I was stumped when the pastor said 'mo tou fu' (grind tofu) to sell and I cannot understand why someone would go and 'mo' the tofu like wth who wants broken tofu until my mom told me 'mo tou fu' means 'make tofu' -.- I srsly don't get the Chinese language at times.

Was greeted halfway by a siao lang also. Thank goodness I cannot understand Cantonese so I just went 'har' before the pastor hurriedly usher me in. Seriously, why do all churches here have at least one unsound person and why oh why always we kena ambush by them on our every first visit to various churches -_- Omg leave me alone can? Maybe I should bring garlic with me next time to ward these people off?

The pastor is an angmoh surprisingly and is um kinda obese. Which is very distracting really cause every now and then during the sermon my mind would be filled with stupid images like how the circumference of his belt is probably the size of a kids swimming pool and how if I were to wear his pants, I would be like so effing skinny heeheehee and can play the 'stretch pants out forward with hands to show how much space there is left' movement as seen in all weight loss ads and just what on earth did he eat till can become that size and would his wife be crushed beneath him during ahem? *ponders*

It didn't help that I was sitting all the way in front of him again. If I look at him, my mind wanders and if I were to look down, later people think I fall asleep. Dilemma dilemma. So I alternated between looking up then down every few minutes haha.

Oh crap, now that I think of it I must have looked like a bobble-head doll =C

Lipo should be made affordable. Seriously. Goodness know how America needs it badly. The sight of amorphous blobs blobbing around the city is quite queasy-ish. I really cannot understand how they ended up that way. It's very different from the fat people in Asia ok cuz the ones here looked as if someone stuffed wads of jiggly silicone into them and shook them a few times before the silicones finally settles down in various areas. It's so uneven ok. Skinny lower arms, fat upper arms, huge waist, tiny legs etc. I really don't get it at all.....

Anyway back to topic where like all churches, we as visitors got free mugs! =D

Daddy taught me something useful just now which I shall now pass on to all of you heh =) If you ever plan to go overseas to live, no need bring or buy mugs. Just visit a new church every week! And as soon as you collect 30 mugs or so then just stick to one church. Save a heck lot of money as mugs don't come cheap ok. Hahaha useful tip no? =PPP

No lah, we don't visit churches to get mugs ok apa lah you lol. That was just a thought. We're still trying to find one to settle in and I really want to try the mixed Chinese/Korean/Japanese church but daddy don't let me *sulks* He insists on an all Chinese church. Bah.

Anyway, I just discover to my dismay that I cannot attend the free kick-boxing classes this month because it clashes with my daddy's classes *sulks deeper* I regret not sitting for my driving test earlier wth. Am going to sit for the written test this Friday. Hmph.

Oh, wish me luck =)

Happy Dragon Boat Festival

Sunday, June 8, 2008

Although I don't think you wish people that on this day. Yes the correct name is Dragon Boat Festival although I don't know how 'Duan Wu' becomes 'Dragon Boat' but then again I have no idea what 'Duan Wu' means and maybe it does mean that???

I am NOT late in my entry ok cause it's SUNDAY here =D

Look, I know 端午節 is like very common and half of you probably couldn't care less but I DIE DIE SHALL BLOG ABOUT IT OK because.......

I FINALLY MADE MY FIRST ZONGZI YESTERDAY!!!! *beams*

Those aren't my hands lah

I was bored and decided to help wrap some zongzi yesterday thinking I can finish them all in time to watch CSI Miami cause really, how hard can it be? I am pro at wrapping presents ok! And what is a bunch of leaves compared to unsymmetrical presents like soft toys? *sniffs haughtily*

See? Just bring the 2 ends together and fill it with a little rice then stuff it with meat and some peanut mix thingy.....

Cover with another layer of rice again then WRAP!!! =DDD

5 minutes later sees me battling with the stupid leaf that won't cover the zongzi.....

10 minutes later sees me successfully pulling the leaf down but now having to deal with a pentagonal zongzi......

15 minutes later of trying to squeeze it back in shape finally made a hole in the bottom thus spilling rice all over the floor.....

20 minutes later sees me rolling all over the floor blaming bamboo leaves and declaring that if it were Pandan leaves I could probably wrap it chio-ly....

25 minutes - I HEREBY DECLARE WAR ON ALL ZONGZI AND BAMBOO LEAVES!!! ROAR!!!

30 minutes - Spilling rice every minute and stuffing it back with MORE rice after each spill....

47 minutes later and CSI long forgotten, I finally successfully wrapped my first zongzi ok!!!! TRIANGULAR TOO!!! =DDD After tying it up happily I proceed to whip my camera out.....

ONLY TO SEE IT SLIP FREE FROM THE STRING AND FALL TO THE GROUND!!!!!!

alskajdshasdlajdoqwiueqdnasdkajakskadjakksksa *cries into pot of sticky rice*

I. give. up.

My mother was laughing hysterically at me T_______T Shall NOT lose to some stupid bamboo leaf hor and so I tried again and successfully wrapped four, FOUR OKAY!!!, zongzi beautifully in the end =DDD

My four is somewhere in that bunch =)

Shaddap and don't ask me how long it took and just praise me for wrapping FOUR ok *happyface*

My very own hand wrapped zongzi!!! Shall zoom in for you to see!!!

YUMMY??? *grabs readers by their heads and bob it up and down*

I knew you would agree with me =DDDD

Conversation at the dining table:

2nd sis: EEEE why this one no meat one?? Stupid Hannah must be you wrap one.

Daddy: This one not that pretty...

Mummy: Must be Hannah make one...

Me: *GLARES* what?!

All: Nothing. Just kidding ehehe....

WHAT LAR!!! And just like that they used me as a scapegoat for every un-nice zongzi they ate. But this, this convo really takes the cake:

2nd sis: You know, actually you would make a successful zongzi seller in Kuching =D

Me: REALLY?!!! *happy*

2nd sis: Yeah. All your zongzi all rice and little meat. EXACTLY like the sellers back home.

"..............................................."

My sister now has a flatten head.

Now excuse me while I put away the dented pressure cooker cover....*skips off happily*

Let's Talk About Music

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

I seriously need an Ipod or some sort of MP3 player now cause my phone can no longer hold all my songs and videos. Last time I was fine cause I only listened to Jay and English songs whereas now my music has expanded to Japanese, Korean and Chinese songs too.

What to do? I have a very wide taste in music. What? You think I only listen to pretty boybands like NEWS or Tohoshinki meh? I find it quite irritating really when people always stereotype me by what I blog and go all 'You like this song meh???' with a look that implies I'm supposed to be this girl who loves bubblegum pop only every time I say I like a certain non-pop song. Yes, I like pop, rock, trance, techno, ballad, R&B, jazz, classical, electronic pop etc. heck, Gwen Stefani even ok! Cannot meh?

But like what for I want to blog about those artists le they not shuai at all unlike YunJae!!!!

Like so CUTE can them both!!!♥

Digressing a little now but I'm so freakin obsessed with them now due to the lack of new NEWS videos (what happen to all the fansubbers? T__T) Yunjae is YunHo and JaeJoong la ok but I'm so lazy to type 'YunHo and JaeJoong' every time I want to rant about them so 'YunJae' it shall be since they are the only ones I care for in Tohoshinki. Hottest duo ever. So if you have any videos or sites or stuff about them please tell me hor!!!! =D

Back to topic, half the time I don't even know who the singers are either and just download their entire album if I like a few of their songs and it's best that way too cause every time I love a really nice song where the voices are heavenly, the singer (when I finally get a glimpse of them on TV) always come out 'beautifully challenged' and not like what I had imagined them to be.......think Guy Sebastian, HelloGoodbye, Bowling for Soup, Tension, Uverworld etc.

I like music for what it is and couldn't care less if it's 'cool' or 'uncool'. Neither do I care much for lyrics. Most people would like a song for it's lyric and how they can so relate to it but I like a song the moment I hear that the beat is right. And don't you just HATE it when some people would just grab your phone or mp3 player and start scrolling through your playlist and going all 'Eww, you like *insert singer name* meh? They suck la! So lame one the music etc.' making you feel loserish.

"..........................."

You know what? STFU. I really dislike people like these. Thinking that listening to current popular hits makes them cooler than you. And like damn insulting ok so you're saying I have no taste for liking her music? mlm. At least I'm not a mindless trend follower like you. I don't mind if you say 'oh you like this person music? I don't really like it though. I find them a bit weird etc.' or diss them in your blogs and stuff but to imply that someone is stupid for listening to said singer in their face after taking their phones without permission in the first place is seriously unforgivable. The many times I want to throw my phone in their snotty faces......

Back to music, I like everything except metal and 'extremes'. I never and probably never will get the hype about metal music. Like wth la music my eye. It's just a jumble of discordant sounds. So if I string a bunch of cans together and shake it vehemently while yodeling in a screechy voice, it's music too? It's NOISE la ok. UNWANTED noise to be exact.

'Extremes' on the other hand is what I call songs that are extreme in nature to their respective genre. For example slow slow slower than slug moving on glue sloooow ballads. Like totally no music can?! Until today I have yet to finish 'Only You' and the furthest I got was 4 sentences into the song and the last 3 were spent trying to find the remote to switch songs. I think can sprout white hair just by listening to it la ok.

Then you have rock songs that turn on the distortions all the way throughout the song. As if a hurricane was going on in the background when they recorded it. It's so horribly distorted I don't even know how to describe it. Wait, actually I think I can, go ask your little brother to scream into a whirling fan for 4 minutes and you'll get the idea.

A cheaper substitute when you have no money to buy those fancy distortion gadgets

Like damn annoying can? Just a minimal amount is enough like Linkin Park and Nickelback, my two favorite rock bands ever.

Another would be really heavy techno music that can put 1000 African bongos drums to shame. I think I hate hate hate this the most ok cause it sounds like nothing but a recording of heartbeats at different rates amplified at a gazillion decibels wth.

Yes, I swear this is how techno music are created

Yes, I know how it sounds like cause last time this ahbeng worker of my dad (no! my daddy don't do ahbeng stuff la ok and he's fired a long time ago liao. The ahbeng and not my daddy la ok) left his techno CDs in our car and we got a rude shock when we started the car. It's not even sexy at all! Techno is supposed to be sexy not meh? Nice techno would be Cascada or Groove Coverage like that la ok cause it still have melody.

Ok la. I think I diss enough music liao and I better stop before someone throw broken CDs at me ok.

*Sigh* I really love M-flo and Clazziquai Project music now. It's electronic pop and it's absolutely friggin perfect for late nights or should I say early early mornings like 12-3am lol. Yes, it's very late now and I should sleep. Stupid phone memory full now so cannot load any new songs in (-_-x)

I really really need an iPod la. Shall go look for a chio one this weekend or something.

Lemon Grass

Monday, January 21, 2008

Mummy asked me to get some lemon grass from my grandmother's house today.

Obviously translated:

Me: My mom asked me to get some 柠檬草.

Grandmother: What 柠檬草?

Me: You know, '柠檬草' la. The lemon smelling one.

Grandmother: We don't have any '柠檬草' here. 柠檬 where got 草. Exactly what is it?

Me: *exasperated* GOT!!!! You know the one you use to cook Assam curries and stuff??

Grandmother: Oh, you mean '香茅'

Me: '香茅'? You mean it's called that??? Oh.....

What the toot la. Why call lemon grass '香茅'?!?!?! '柠檬草' not more chun meh? What does '香茅' mean anyway??? Anyway, everyone should be able to understand that '柠檬草' is lemon grass no? Simple mah! Just direct translate also can guess what I'm trying to say.....Why isn't anyone smart enough like me to do that???

2nd sis: Oh? You, smart? You just keep dreaming la you stupid melon girl....

What?!?!? *stares incredulously* Say me fat is it? You want die hia????? You yourself then is a melon!!!

2nd sis: *smirks* No. Just direct translate la like you said......傻瓜.

Hmph. *sulks*

So Much For Being Smart

Thursday, January 17, 2008

Due to the lack of English subbed NEWS and Tegomass videos, I decided to find Chinese subbed ones. After all, why not? Since Taiwan is full of insane fangirls I'm sure they must have subbed every single video of theirs.

So I click Baidu.

And immediately felt sian when confronted with a pageful of Chinese words. Nevertheless, must persevere!!! After all I am Chinese! I can read!

5 minutes later....Ok very sian I can read and understand each word but have no idea what it means as a sentence. So being the 'smart' girl I am I remember that 'there is such thing as Babelfish'

Happily typed the url in and click 'translate'. Ha! Byebye you Chinese words you =D

Only to be faced with super weird sentences such as 'The hand more increases the field videos the frequency' and 'How downloading the hand more increases the field the songs' and 'The hand more increases the field Taiwan meeting situation'

What the hell?!?!?!

What in the name of Babelfish is 'the hand more increases the field'??? *scrolls up and down site* Is this an entertainment site or an agricultural site huh? Who bloody cares about increasing fields??? What fields?!! Where are my Tegomass videos?! *thoroughly annoyed* Taiwan people are insane I tell you. Videotaping field growing frequencies and what not.......

Then suddenly I remember....................Tegomass in Chinese is 手越增田.

=_="

Apparently, Babelfish is EXACTLY like me. Can direct translate word for word but not into an understandable sentence.

Rats. I guess there really isn't any shortcuts to learning Chinese. Bah.

*digs out Chinese dictionary*

Pronunciations

Sunday, January 13, 2008

I simply cannot stand wrong English pronunciations from people here anymore. I mean one or twice is forgivable but the fourth and fifth time even after people has repeatedly corrected you? Just how long do you plan on sounding silly? And don't they ever check the dictionary?

For example, Boulevard. It's pronounced as Boo-le-vard with the 'ard' sounding like the 'ard' in 'yard'. Not Bowl-lee-verd. I mean get it straight la since it'll be on your tongue for quite a while. Plus I seriously don't understand why people chose 'Boulevard' as the name for our shopping mall. In Western countries, boulevard is a term for 'a wide city street or main road'. So why are we calling our malls after street terms?

I mean how weird would it be if we were to go to other countries to find that their malls are called 'Lorong'?

Moving on.....it's Dee-VORCE!!!! NOT DIE-VORCE OK??!! (divorce) Sound like suicide pact like that. They went through a 'die-vorce'.... I really CANNOT STAND it when people keep getting it wrong even until today. TODAY!!! The era of internet and Astro and Desperate Housewives can?!?! I bet DH got mention divorce many times one, not that I ever watch it though. I cannot help but cringe when I hear people going 'die-vorce' repeatedly even after people has corrected them.

You DI-vide NOT DIE-vide. So naturally you 'DI-vorce'.

And recently 'cafe', which by some weird means was pronounced as 'cave' by my classmates -_- It took me a good 10 minutes to finally realized that they were talking about cafes and not caves. "Kuching got a lot of 'caves' that serve good Western food", "More and more new 'caves' are opening at Padungan" while waving a coupon book making me wonder what kind of CAVES need FOOD COUPONS. It's 'ka-fay' or something to that effect ok.

The pronunciations aren't copied from the dictionary. It's just how I think it sounds like after hearing my cd dictionary as I'm too lazy to dig out my dictionary now. I'm trying to list the pronunciations out to as chun as I can.

By the way, raisin is pronounced as Ray-ZIHN ok?! Or Ray-Zhen if you're too Chinese speaking to know how to pronounce 'zihn'. You know, kind of like the word 'poison' but with a 'h'. Yours truly was born and raised partially in the US of A hor. Stop arguing with me. It's not ray-SIN. I even took the liberty of checking up the Oxford dictionary to see if there is a British pronunciation but there isn't.

So where does this ray-SIN come from????

Then there is Adam. Or Ah-Dumb like how some people call it. HAHAHAHAHA!!! Ah-Dumb!!! I seriously die laughing inside every time someone mispronounced it during church. Ah-dumb and Eve....

I can go on and on but seriously, Ah-Dumb just take the cake doesn't it? So I shall stop here.

AH-DUMB!!!! XD
